Lions And Tigers And Sharks, Oh My

For all the animal lovers, there are two ideal days out within a short distance from Liverpool; one being Chester Zoo and the other is the Blue Planet Aquarium.

Chester Zoo, home to approximately 500 different species of animal, is a fantastic way to spend your day; you can take visiting family or even have a fun day with friends. Also, the Zoo recently opened ‘Islands’ giving a more expedition-type feel. Islands allows you to walk through or hop on a boat (at no extra cost) and explore the six unique islands’ flora, fauna and wildlife.

Pricing for the zoo is not much for a whole day, however, if you can opt for non-peak times the pricing is cheaper; also they offer student pricing. Also, if you need transport to and from the location, Mersey Travel have a Chester Zoo Ticket Offer which combines entry to the zoo with return travel for a cost-friendly price.

The Blue Planet Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the North West, is host to a variety of underwater creatures. As well as learning about the animals and watching them gracefully master their habitats there are a number of additional activities available; the Aquatheatre and the Undersea Walkway are just two. Also offered, if you are brave enough, are the shark encounters which allows you to get up close and personal with the sharks.

Again, pricing for the day is reasonable and you save money if booking online. Although they do not have off-peak pricing they still offer student concessions and a good Friends Pack deal for four people. Travelling is not a problem with a bus service operating from the city centre, also you can get the train from the city centre which stops a two-minute walk away from the Blue Planet Centre.
